Compass Rose Cellars - Fredericksburg Tasting Room

Fredericksburg, TX

Visit: December 2016

Oooh!  Wine Tastings!

We had the opportunity to visit Compass Rose Cellars' Fredericksburg Tasting room just after their grand opening in December.  We enjoyed our visit to their winery in Hye earlier in 2016, not just for the well made wines but also the scenic setting.  We were day tripping to Fredericksburg from San Antonio this time, so Compass Rose's new tasting room gave us a chance to check out their current offerings we wouldn't have had otherwise.

Interior of the tasting room

Compass Rose Cellars Fredericksburg Tasting room is located in a new building on the east end of Main street at the beginning of the main tourist strip.  It's in a new stone-facade building that's shared with a few other new businesses.  We also visited their neighbor, Jack's 1742, a cool coffee shop, bakery, and gift shop wrapped up in one.  Their is convenient parking behind the building, something that's tough to find at times near Main St.

The main tasting bar

Tastings are $16, include the tasting glass, and gives the opportunity to try 5 of Compass Rose's wines; at this time 2 whites, 2 reds, and their port-style wine.  Charles, one of the co-owners, helped us with our tasting and shared lots of interesting info about the vineyards where Compass Rose sources their fruit.  We really liked their Cabernet Franc when we visited Compass Rose in Hye last year, so it was nice getting to try a Cab Franc-Petit Verdot-Ruby Cab blend called Random Lines.  We found their Touriga Nacional wine to be the most interesting to us, so we had to pick up a bottle.
