Fredericksburg, TX
Visit: December 2016
Main Street Fredericksburg storefront
We first visited Armadillo's Leap Winery's first location on Highway 290 back in March of 2016. We enjoyed their fun variety of wines at approachable price points, so it was good seeing them expand to now have a tasting room on Main Street in Fredericksburg. There is a growing trend of wineries off of the 290 trail setting up an outpost on Main Street. This provides easy access for many visitors and an opportunity for them to try more Texas wineries.
Interior of the tasting room
Tasting are $12.99 and typically include 6 wines. We got to try the Stonewall Glogg, a fortified spiced wine, as a seventh. The tasting covers a lot of the bases; dry white and red wines, a dessert wine, and even a sparkling wine. Tasters also get to keep their tasting glass that features an etching of their cool armadillo logo. Bottle prices are still very approachable with most in the high-teens through mid-twenties dollar range. Our favorite wine during our first Armadillo's Leap visit was the BFF Blend, a blend of Tempranillo, Montepulciano and Aglianico, and we're sticking to it as our favorite!
