Composition: Cabernet Franc from the Texas High Plains
We've been on a Cabernet Franc kick this year, and this one from Compass Rose Cellars kicked it off for us. We picked up one of the last bottles of this wine when we visited Compass Rose in Hye back in March (read about our visit here), and we're glad we did. Cabernet Franc is a parent grape to Cabernet Sauvignon, and is more typically used in blends rather than varietal wines. This Cab Franc has a lot of red fruit and spice on the nose. Flavors start with raspberry and dried strawberry, followed by baking spice and even a green bell pepper note. Finish is long with medium plus body, tannins and acidity.
Compass Rose Cellars recently opened a tasting room on Main St. in Fredericksburg, so it is definitely on the list for our next visit.
