Hawk's Shadow - 2012 Temptation
Composition: Mostly Tempranillo and a little Cabernet from Alan Bayer's vineyard in the Texas High Plains.
Price: $30 at Hawk's Shadow Vineyards and Winery in Dripping Springs, TX
Notes: Dried red fruit on the nose and at initial taste, transitions to dark red fruit and tobacco, and some spice on the finish. Medium body and tannins. 13% alcohol. Garnet/brick color shows the 34 months of oak aging. It's fairly rare to see a Texas wine with this much time in barrel, especially at this price point. It's good seeing Hawk's Shadow taking their time to get their wines where they want them before release. This is a good wine for those that enjoy Spanish Rioja Reserva wines. Highly recommended!
