Bernhardt Winery

Plantersville, TX

Visits: July 2016 and December 2015

Bernhardt Winery is located in the rolling hills of Plantersville, only about an hour north of Houston.  Bernhardt made the first commercially produced wine in Grimes county, their dry Blanc du Bois.  They also  have quite a bit of Blanc du Bois growing on their property.  Bernhardt offers a wide array of wines, some made with Texas fruit and others made from fruit sourced from outside of the state.

Their tastings are $7 for 6 tastes.  My favorite is their dry Blanc du Bois.  It has bright acidity with flavors of melon and honey.  This is a good one for fans of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.  From my experiences if a winery is growing a grape variety on site, they do a great job making wine with that variety. I was also drawn to Conquistador, a relatively new Black Spanish blend.  Bernhardt Winery has a very popular lawn concert series as well as many other events.  Be sure to check out their website for the schedule.
