Bending Branch Winery - 2012 Texas Tannat

Bending Branch Winery - 2012 Texas Tannat

Composition:  Tannat from the Reddy Vineyards in the Texas High Plains

Price: Around $30 at the HEB in Fredericksburg.  We're starting to see this wine available at other HEB stores throughout Texas.

Notes:  This is a big wine!  Big body and tannins that stick around.  The wildness of Tannat is brought into a balanced wine here.  Blackberry jam, dried dark fruit (fig, black cherry), and a little bit of smokiness.  We enjoyed this one with an afternoon of grilling, as it can hold it's own with bigger flavored foods.  If you like bigger wines but have difficulty finding them at approachable price points, this one is for you.  I wonder if Tanant in Texas is going to become what Petite Sirah has become in California, a grape variety that is primarily used as a blending grape in Europe embraced by Americans to make big varietal wines.
