William Chris Vinyards
William Chris has become very popular, now to the point that reservations are required for tastings on weekends and are recommended on weekdays. This popularity is well deserved as their wines are consistently excellent. There is a focus on blends and a lot of attention given to the terrior of their grapes. Their Cinsault Rose continues to be one of our favorite Texas Rose wines. We picked up a bottle of their Artist Blend on our last visit, a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Tannat, sort of a super Rhone-style blend.
The main tasting room is located in a modern building behind the old farm house, which is the tasting room for their wine club members. Tasting are $20 and include tasting of 7 of their wines. The tasting room staff is very knowledgeable about their wines and partner vineyards, so we usually learn some interesting things about Texas wines and wine making with each visit. There is a nice view of their vineyard and distant hills from their large patio. Their by the glass prices are a good value, and they have some great cheese plates, making this a nice place to relax if you have the opportunity to visit on a slower day of the week.
